Along the same line of development also the new " Facts and figures on organic agriculture in the European Union ," the 2013 report prepared by the Commission on the status of organic farming in the EU. In a decade , from 2002 to 2011 , the area cultivated bio has almost doubled : from 5.7 million to 9.6 hectares ( 5.4% of the total). Companies are 186,000 , increased tenfold from 2003 to 2010 , and in general are larger and run by younger managers compared to conventional farms .
